Georges Lambert 1919-1998

Georges Lambert, Paysanne Bretone lithographIn December Yamet Arts, Inc. will be featuring the French artist Georges Lambert as part of its ongoing program to highlight a different artist every few months.  Georges Lambert, born in 1919 was one of France’s famous school of Paris artists.  A true Parisian, Lambert maintained his atelier on the left bank since 1946 until his death in 1998.  Irving Yamet met Lambert in Paris in the late 1950’s and introduced him to his son, Rick Yamet in 1975.  Rick Yamet, the president of Yamet Arts, maintained a relationship with Lambert until his death.  “Whenever I went to Paris I would always stop to see Georges and buy a few things from him”, said Rick Yamet, “he would hand me a glass of sherry and we would discuss the old days when my father Irving would come to see him.  It was a very nice relationship because of the continuity from father to son and I cherished it.”

Yamet Arts was a major publisher of Lambert lithographs throughout the 1960’s and 70’s producing such images as Sete le Soir, Arbres sur le Seine (right), Arbres sur le Seine lithograph by Georges LambertPaysanne Bretone (top-left) aand Jazz Musicians (below)Jazz Musicians, lithograph by Georges Lambert.  These traditional French images of landscapes, harbor scenes and musical motifs solidified Lambert’s world wide reputation as a devotee to the City of Lights. Yamet Arts is proud of its business association and collaboration with Georges Lambert and it is thrilled to offer his works to the public.  In addition to offering a special discount on all Lambert works for the month of December, Rick Yamet  has indicated that he is planning a 10th anniversary party for Yamet Arts in Peekskill which will include many of Lamberts oil paintings, watercolors and prints.  No firm date has been set for the party but Rick Yamet said that an announcement will be made soon.

Rick Yamet is a very old and dear friend and I remember when we went to Paris together to buy George Lambert's in the Auctions. The big sale was a riot! Our French was not too good and an American and British buyer stood out amongst the great number of French buyers present. Despite being somewhat “Linguistically challenged” Rick succeeded in buying most of the Estate Sale. Getting it all back to London on the Eurostar and then packed and shipped to Yamet Arts in New York was a considerable challenge! Good times! (we did manage to sample a celebratory malt whisky (or two) in celebration afterwards) Yamet Arts must have one of the best collections of these excellent works in the world!

I really like this artist. His style is very unique. I have a numbered watercolor by this artist. I have not seen this pic anywhere. It is mainly an orange outdoor cafe scene. Where do I go to find the worth.

A Georges Lambert is included in my collection. Originally displayed at Galerie Baden in 1959, it is a village landscape in a beautiful collection of earth tones orange, yellow and browns.
I'm regretful that I missed your display.

I just purchased an original lithograph of a beautiful landscape by this artist. It shows a canal in the foreground with what appears to be Notre Dame in the background. It appears to be an original lithograph signed and #'d by the artist. I'm curious about the value of such a piece it appears to be in excellent condition. Any info re: name of piece, price etc. would be much appreciated. I can also send pics if you wish
    Thanks
    Frank
