Artist: Curt Belshe
Title of Work: Prunus Yedoensis
Medium: Archival inkjet
Size: 60" x 24"
Year: 2004
A print maker and innovative digital artist, "Curt has created a series of panoramic prints showing the beauty of the National Arboretum over the course of a year. Prunus Yedoensis, shown here is from the series. Most people’s experience of nature takes place not in remote natural settings, but in closer-to-home venues that sharply juxtapose the beauty of nature with the realities of urban life. In this series, Belshe combines the beautiful plantings of the Arboretum with the working elements, such as plant identification tags, walking paths, and interpretative signs."
"The panoramas are created using a method that allows the artist to photograph landscapes, over a 180° field of view, within a few feet of the camera. Using computer software (Apple IMovie, Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop), and an artistic eye, these panoramic scenes are created without the characteristic fish eye distortion of traditional panoramic photography. Sixty to 80 still frames are pieced together to create each composition." (Quote from www.carlbelshe.com) View more of Curt's work on his site.
