For the Love of Art Exhibition A Smashing Success

Turnout for the Valentine weekend’s event exceeded all expectations.  Crowds were estimated to be over 1500 hundred people for the 3 hour reception.  The parking lot was filled to capacity and people were forced to park 3 blocks away from the Old Hat Factory.  Local residents that attended said they had never seen an event generate so much interest in Peekskill.  Others commented on the quality and depth of art on display; “I never knew there was so much great art in the Hudson River Valley” said one guest; “It’s a magnificent show that displays the depth of talent our local artists have” added another.

Rick Yamet and Penny Yamet of Yamet Arts, Inc., Ben Green, owner of the Old Hat Factory and all the organizers and curators are calling the show a success for everyone involved.  It proves that when we work together on a project like this we can put on a great show that benefits the entire community.

Kate Vrimjoet took quite a few photos at the reception on Saturday evening. She shares them on her site.

In all my collecting years I have seldom come across such fine collections as the one Yamet Arts offers. The works are consistently in fabulous condition, are framed perfectly, and I am absolutely certain the prices are gauged appropriately. Not only does Yamet Arts have an impressive collection, but the myriad of famed fine masters included in the collection make for wise long-term investments.

For the Love of Art was the highlight of my year. Congratulations!

In addition, I rather enjoyed dealing with Mr. Yamet. He is quite passionate about his line of work.

I would like to thank Rick Yamet of Yamet Arts, the curators and Ben Green for taking the time and energy to mount the exhibition " For the Love of Art". The curators did an interesting selection of compiling a variety of work that allowed for an interesting survey of what artists are doing outside of New York City. It allowed me, as one of these artists to meet others from the area and to have a chance to discuss our work with one another and together
    present it to our communities.
The Hat Factory is an extremely important site to give a cultural presence to the region and one that should be supported.
Thank you again for making a "group show" an pleasant and worthwhile experience. Bruce Richards

I've been thinking about my experience as a participant in For the Love of Art. I thought it was extraordinary for the curators to gathered this group of artists who were united in their making-mission. Not for the sell-out of art, not for the quick buck of art, not for the hack of art. I know it sounds facetious, but other than museums, or university galleries, the purity of what was accomplished seems extraordinary. I had the opportunity to sit gallery hours one Sunday afternoon with the expected outcome of getting to be a fly on the wall and observe honest reactions to my work, which is a tremendous gift. The unexpected outcome of that afternoon was the consistent audience reaction to the show. Their senses were ignited as they reacted to the passions of the artists works around them and the over-arching theme of the show. People were energized and excited and engaged and exuberant. Many people approach me simply wanting to talk about the show. That enriched their lives and it enriched mine in many unexpected ways. Who does that anymore? I thought it was both risky and insightful that Rick hosted this show. You have to love art and you have to know art to put up a show like For the Love of Art. Now I feel like a drug addict looking for my next fix. I can't wait to do it again. Except the bar's been set so high that I might just have to make it happen myself.

What an event in Peekskill! Great to be part of this very professionally put together art exhibit. I can just imagine how much work and effort it took..but the result revealed to everyone who saw the show the quality and variety of art made in Hudson Valley. AND the biggest surprise for me was to see those prints by great masters Rick Yamet was showing at his space - it is like the best kept secret of Hudson Valley!

It was an honor and privilege participating in "For the Love of Art" with so many fine artists. The caliber of the show was top-notch. The video installation by Marcy B. Freedman and I was the first thing that people saw as they entered the galley space, and we received many positive comments. It was a joy hearing that many of the people were walking around the galleries muttering, "For the Love of Art I would..."
A big thanks to Rick, Ben, and all of the Curators who put this exhibition together.

In the aftermath of FOR THE LOVE OF ART, we (the curators, the organizers and the sponsors) have taken hold of what was most definitely a VERY successful exhibition.
As a co-curator for this show, I find myself in a self-congratulatory position that I normally reserve for only the "best" in my continuous effort to bring to Peekskill and the Hudson Valley the exceptional and the distinctive in contemporary art. I am extremely pleased that the organizers for this show invited Maxwell Fine Arts and me to co-curate this exhibition. The show brought together a special group of artists and curators within an exciting new venue, The Hat Factory, in Peekskill. Along with the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, The Paramount Center for the Arts, the many commercial and non-profit galleries and exhibition spaces in this area, The Hat Factory, under its leadership by owner and musician Ben Green, has established itself as another significant and pivotal location to see the many facets of cutting-edge contemporary art in Westchester and the Hudson Valley. And with quality, the exhibition continues in the virtual space of this website, YAMETARTS, one of the major organizers and sponsors of FOR THE LOVE OF ART, who provided this show with a parallel view and complementary support of some of the major names in Modern Art. This show stands as a consequential and momentous art event in the Hudson Valley. My personal thanks to Ben Green, Jo-Ann Brody of the Peekskill Arts Council, Rick Yamet, Mark and Livias Straus of the HVCCA, my five other co-curators, and notably, the many qualitative artists that participated by both submitting their work and ultimately being selected to be included in FOR THE LOVE OF ART.

I was so grateful to have had the opportunity to show with such a fantastic assortment of Artists. I was also so thankful that Tilly Strauss curated me into this show. Through this show, I was "found" by the Brill Gallery in North Adams, Ma. where I am currently showing some of nudes. It was very fortuitous for me.

As a longtime resident and member of the arts community in Peekskill, it was exciting and wonderful to see so many art lovers find their way to the Hat Factory to see the show. The caliber of the work was excellent and a good overview of the quality and professionalism of art creation in the Hudson Valley. Thanks again everyone for putting it together.

What a wonderful thought provoking exercise this show was for me. It was such an honor to be asked to bring in personal favorite artists from Dutchess and Ulster counties... For the first time my critical mind shifted from the philosophical abundance of great art to the championing of an elite few. I love the way Rick, Ben and JoAnne had confidence in the curators... supported our diverse choices and launched that incredible party for the artists and hundreds of Hudson Valley art enthusiasts. The show fell together nicely. But there is so much more art to show. I presume it will be an annual event? Semi annual? What is the thought on that?
