When the state of Israel was born in May 1948, four other nations which had long been subjected to British rule achieved their freedom at the same time: India, Pakistan, Burma (Myanmar) and Ceylon (Sri Lanka.) However, the emergence of the state of Israel was unique. All other nations came into being after a foreign power had been compelled to withdraw or withdrew of its own accord: the native people, dwelling uninterruptedly on its own soil, simply passed from subjection to freedom. Such was not the case with the state of Israel. For over two thousand years the Jewish people was for the most part separated from the land of its ancestors and, for many centuries, dispersed among alien nations. In most of the countries of its dispersion Jews were hated, persecuted, oppressed, denied rights and even murdered. History provides no other instance of a people that survived under such conditions. The Jewish people overcame all persecutions and oppressions to return to their own land through Aliyah (literally migration). From all lands of dispersions, from east and west, from north and south-Jews converted a desolate, abandoned and largely unpopulated country into a flowering land of culture which serves as an example for all emerging nations.

Salvador Dali has succeed through the power of his great artistry in embodying in a number of prints the great spirit of the Aliyah which converted a desolate land into the flowering and dynamic country of Israel.*To view the entire suite please log on to our website at www.penrickcollections.com.

Donna Sharrett considers her "works meditations on the beauty of rituals developed over time to satisfy the fundamental human need to mark important passages in life... Materials are chosen for their symbolic significance (and) include rose petals, synthetic hair, rings, bone beads, handmade rose beads (inspired by a 13th-century recipe for rosary beads), blue jeans, damask linens & neckties.

Leslie Lew's works of art "revisit early Pop art subject matter while addressing core issues of American culture. This style can result in works that are up to 3 inches thick." River Meditations uses imagery recorded from the banks of the Hudson during the winters of 1999 and 2003. I was drawn to the transformation of its surface in winter and to the power of nature as creator. Ice became an ever-changing entity, reforming itself into flowing structures. Light danced off fragmented patterns and found its way into watery crevices. This was the beginning of an investigation into the nature of transformed realities. The footage became a springboard for interpretation accomplished by digital processing.

For the Love of Art: Michael Ricardo Andreev

Albert has exhibited extensively in the Hudson Valley area and in and around Denver, Colorado. He creates abstract works in a variety of media - painting, drawing and sculpture.

Among other projects Albert is the director of Kork, a bulletin board exhibit space above the photo copier in a CPA's office in Poughkeepsie. Exhibits rotate bi-monthly and encourage artists to explore the nature of work in a non-art context.

The Genesis paintings are painted on pages from the adult magazine Genesis. The original images in the photo essays have been obscured with paint leaving in many, the accompanying narrative text as a portion of absurd poetry.

Christopher Albert's website

Artist: Christopher Albert
Title of Work: Genesis 18
Medium: oil on printed paper
Size: 8"x11"
Year: 2007
For the Love of Art: Kate Vrijmoet

Vrijmoet exhibited 50 Paintings in 50 Days in November 2008 at her home studio in Pawling. She determined to paint a portrait a day for fifty days. The resulting works are large scale latex on paper. The endeavor entailed lining up subjects as well as painting them. Kate found it easier to find subjects as word of her project spread and volunteers came forward; the subjects include many familiar local faces.

"I have made choices in favor of energy in the brushwork, a direct result of the rapidity with which I work, in favor of the visibility of process, manifest in the strings and drips and the general truth to the materials I am using in favor of emotion, how I feel about the figure and the subject ... I want the intensity and clarity with which I experience the subject to be accessible to you, to engage you, so I can share that connection with you." (Quote from the Kate Vrijmoet in Pawling News Chronicle article by Susan Macura, Nov. 21, 2008.)

Yamet Arts is happy to present Kate's work in the upcoming exhibit For the Love of Art.

Artist: Kate Vrijmoet
Title: Painting 34 of 50
Medium: Benjamin Moore Latex House Paint on Paper
Size: 68" x 58"
Year: 2008

Kate's website
EYE, Jill Reynolds, Loir Nozick & Carrie Levy

EYE is a group of artists who present live public art performances, creating collaborative, improvisational artworks.
